The Joy Formidable- Whirring
The Joy Formidable just released their latest clip for “Whirring”, a new single set for release on May 25. The song itself is the definition of what indie rock should look and sound like these days, with dueling distorted fuzzed-out guitar and bass, driving, fist-shaking drums and Ritzy Bryan’s beautifully raw sonic vocals echoing in the hills.
I have a little giant soft spot for girls with filthy mouths.
Amanda Blank, a hip hop not-an-ingenue talent that comes correct with skills that rival Kid Sister and a nasty attitude that would rival the fabricated-pout-icyness of a Lady GaGa, must understand this factor, because her new single “Might Like You Better” is all shaky, poppy and downright borderline sweaty-sex-aftermath dirty.

Fol Chen- Cable TV
This song has the best fucking lyrics.
When asked to describe their sound, Highland Park’s Fol Chen said, “You know that mysterious black object that the creepy family is staring at on the cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Presence” album?” (Yes). “Fol Chen sound like that.” Cryptic descriptions aside, Fol Chen’s recently released Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune’s Made, is a dramatic debut. Their complex layers, which include strings, horns, multiple vocals and the requisite drum machine, are captivating. “Cable TV,” one of the standout tracks on the record, is a pounding, tongue-in-cheek dedication to cheap weekend escapes.
